Wordlark privacy policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
Wordlark is a daily word-puzzle game for Android made by Bytefoundry Labs. This page explains what the app stores, why, who handles it and how to delete it. We keep as little as we can.
Who is responsible
Bytefoundry Labs is the trading name of Hisham Mohsen, who is responsible for your data (the "controller"). Contact: hello@bytefoundrylabs.com.
What the app stores
- An anonymous account. The app signs in silently with a random account ID from Google Firebase. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your puzzle progress. The words you found, hints used, streaks and settings are saved on your phone and backed up to Firebase under that account ID, so a reinstall can restore them.
- Leaderboard entries, only if you pick a nickname. Your nickname, your score and the time you played appear on the daily, weekly, all-time and league boards that other players see. Without a nickname, nothing is posted. Weekly leagues group players by the order they started the week; no personal data is used for that.
- Feedback you send. If you use Settings ▸ Send feedback, we store your message, the app version and your account ID so we can read and act on it.
- Reminders. If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your phone only. Nothing about it is sent to us.
Ads, analytics and crash reports
- Ads (Google AdMob). The free version shows ads. AdMob may use your phone's advertising ID, IP address and device details to show and measure ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent screen asks you first, and you can change your choice any time in Settings ▸ Privacy choices. Buying "Remove ads" turns ads off.
- Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase). Counts of things like puzzles started and finished, hints used and screens opened, so we can see what works. It runs only when your consent choices allow it. It does not use your advertising ID.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics). If the app crashes, a technical report about the crash and your device model is sent, again only when your consent choices allow it.
- Purchases (Google Play). Google Play handles payment for "Remove ads". We never see your card or payment details; we only receive confirmation that the purchase is valid.
- App protection (Google Play Integrity). The app asks Google to confirm it is a genuine copy, to keep the leaderboards fair.
Who handles your data
Google provides Firebase, AdMob, Google Play and Play Integrity, and processes data for us under its own terms and privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Our Firebase database is stored in Europe. We don't sell your data and don't share it with anyone else.
How long we keep it
- Progress backup and leaderboard entries: until you delete them (see below).
- Feedback messages: until we have dealt with them, then deleted.
- Analytics and crash reports: for the limited periods Google applies to Firebase data.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to Settings ▸ Delete my data. It removes your progress on the phone and in Firebase, your leaderboard entries and your account. If you no longer have the app, see Delete your Wordlark data.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, or to stop using it, by writing to hello@bytefoundrylabs.com. If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Wordlark is meant for players aged 13 and over and is not designed for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
